What is the BPO?

What is the Eden Prairie Band Parent Organization?

If you have a student enrolled in any of the bands at Eden Prairie High School, then you’re in!  We are a group of parents committed to enhancing the experience of our band students by:

  • Providing and organizing volunteers for various band activities
  • Facilitating communication between our band directors and our band parents
  • Managing fundraisers to help offset the cost of band activities, such as Band Camp and tours
  • Advocating for the band program to the greater Eden Prairie community
  • Acquiring and donating items deemed important by the Band Directors but are unattainable due to budget constraints

In the late summer and fall, you’ll see dozens of parents helping out the marching band: fitting uniforms, making costumes, flags and props for the Color Guard, moving percussion equipment during competitions, chaperoning, providing refreshments for long bus rides and helping the kids and the directors do whatever has to be done. In October, it’s all hands on deck for the Prairie Colors Marching Band Competition, hosted in our own Aerie Stadium. There is SpiritWear to be sold, student fundraisers such as our Fruit and Nut Sales, requests to provide support for concerts, including our year-end Pasta & Pops event. We provide chaperones for band tours and hold several major fundraising events that help to offset tour costs for all students. Between the events we work, we also manage to have some social functions just for the adults.

Why get involved? Well, why wouldn’t you? The parents are fun, the kids are a blast, and the music is superb. You can take on a big role or be an occasional volunteer – or even just come to our meetings on the last Monday of most months and listen to what’s going on in the band program. We’d love to see you there!
