The Eden Prairie Band Parent Organization is one of the largest and most active groups at EPHS! It takes a village to run a band program, and we could not do all that we do for the band without the wonderful and generous support from you, our band parents. Give yourselves a well-earned hand of applause — you’ve earned it!

Now that we’ve gotten the important business out of the way, let’s talk about next year. We have a number of open positions for the 2012-13 school year, requiring varying time commitments. There is bound to be a job that is perfect for you: Please take a look!

Are you wondering what is involved in holding one of the open positions? CLICK HERE to read a brief description of all open positions.

All you have to do to get one of these coveted positions is CLICK HERE and log in to Sign Up Genius and sign up! No auditions necessary!

A special note to parents of incoming freshmen and sophomores: It might seem as if your student has to be in Eagle Band for you to hold a volunteer position, but nothing could be further from the truth. Only a handful of freshmen are in Eagle Band, but we have plenty of freshmen parents step in to do a ton of different things. Become involved and see if you don’t have as much fun as your kid!

Monday is our final BPO Meeting of the school year at 7:00 pm in the Orchestra Room at EPHS. We have an agenda loaded with information to share with you. We will also have food! A potential fundraiser company will be there to share a brief overview and samples. Topics to be discussed include: Pasta & Pops, 8th Grade Welcome Reception, Band Camp, China, information for graduating seniors, and of course, the Directors’ update. We will also talk about Committee openings for next year and our End of Year Social. Hope to see you there!.

Are you tired of that old trombone taking up space in your spare bedroom? Does it annoy you to keep dusting around that flute that hasn’t been played since your child graduated from high school? When you looked at the size of your taxes owed this year, did you vow to do better planning for next year? If any of these scenarios describes you, consider making a donation to the Eden Prairie Bands.

By moving 5th Grade band into the school day this year, participation is higher than ever. That’s Great News! But the parents of many of these kids do not have the financial resources to buy or rent an instrument through one of our local music stores. The elementary grades have loaned out every single instrument they have, and some are sharing. We would love a donation of your playable used instrument.

Want to help, but don’t have an instrument to donate? We would be thrilled with a tax-deductible cash donation as well. Cash donations will be used to clean/repair donated instruments and also for necessary supplies such as reeds, valve oil and cork grease.

To make your donation, fill out THIS FORM and bring your donation to any band director. You will be mailed a receipt from the Eden Prairie Schools that can be used for tax purposes.

EP Winterguard is hosting a Pasta Dinner on Monday, March 5th from 6:30pm – 8:00pm in the Old Commons. Pay at the door: $7 for adults, $3 for kids age 12 and under. Hope to see you there!

Hey Parents – The BPO is now on Facebook! If you’re a Facebook user, Like our page at Eden Prairie Band Parent Organization.

If you’ve ever had any of the products now on sale by band students, you’ll know they are of exceptional quality, and they make lovely gifts. All EPHS band students have the opportunity to sell these products, and the money raised will go to their student accounts, to help defray the costs of band activities. Participation is optional, but encouraged. Orders must be turned in on Monday, November 28th. Product needs to be picked up at EPHS on Thursday, December 15th from 4:00 – 8:00 pm during conferences.

As a Band Parent Organization, one of our roles is to make sure that no student is unable to participate in band activities just because of the cost. Scholarships are available to those that need them, but one of the things we ask students to do in return is to help themselves by participating in fundraisers. If your student did not receive the fundraiser materials, have them contact their band director as soon as possible.

The band directors have asked for our help to clean out the band area and help with a few assorted jobs. We will be doing this on Saturday, August 27th from 8:30 to 10:30. Click here for more information.

Also, don’t forget to stop by Walgreens at Cty Rd 4 and Hwy 5 for a car wash from 10:00 to 5:00. The drumline will be performing, so you will be entertained while you wait!

Hey Band Parents–The kids are off to Band Camp on Sunday, August 7th, so let’s party! The BPO is organizing a Parent Social starting at 5:00 pm at Santorini’s. This is a great time to meet other band parents and see how much fun we are.

You buy your own food and drink and stay for as long as you like. BPO provides the great excuse to go out! We promise – no sign-up sheets, requests for donations, sewing, etc. You don’t have to have a child at band camp to attend – all band parents are welcome. Hope to see you all there!

Just a reminder that Band Camp Registration is due on Wednesday, June 1st.  Band Camp is required for all Eagle Marching Band members, including Colorguard, and it’s a ton of fun for everybody. Don’t miss out!

Click on the “Band Camp” link under Events for more information.

Due to multiple conflicts on July 19th and our inability to find enough volunteers to run the event, the 2011 Prairie Colors Golf Classic has been canceled.  Thanks go out to Mike Stolz and the Golf Classic committee for the planning and preliminary work they did so far, and to Bent Creek Golf Course and our corporate sponsors who have supported the Eden Prairie Bands.
